Let the Cards Fall

Sundown I left the interstate

There were jet trails in the sky

Thought I’d make it home by morning

But there was trouble on the way

A bad storm was advancing

Sirens echoed in the distance

I found a roadhouse near the border

Then it got too late to call

So I’ll let the cards fall

But there’s no winner in this stall

I’ll let destiny

Tell me what is right

Then under a different sun

We’ll let the horses run

And feel the freedom

To go into a new light

You measure words like medicine

So I don’t OD on the sound

Of silent spaces falling

On unspoken ground

I still hear your voice replaying

In the damp suspended air

As I set out for the last time

With this cross to bear

So I’ll let the cards fall

But there’s no winner in this stall

I’ll let destiny

Tell me what is right

Then under a different sun

We’ll let the horses run

And feel the freedom

To go into a new light

I turn on the radio

An old country song plays

It tells me what I already know

Time to go our separate ways
