A journey through the astrology signs and their corresponding music keys.
Is there a connection between the 12 Zodiac signs and the 12 keys of music? There have been various astrologers, philosophers and composers over the years who have explored the relationship between music, mathematics, astronomy and astrology.
It’s fascinating to look into the history of this potential correlation but I thought that this could form the basis for an interesting music project.
So in late 2019 I set out to create a piece of electronic music for each astrology sign using its related musical key in the composition.
Aries is considered to be the first sign of the Zodiac as it heralds the spring equinox (in the Northern Hemisphere). And C major is generally the starting key in Western music.
So we have as follows:
Aries: C
Taurus: G
Gemini: D
Cancer: A
Leo: E
Virgo: B
Libra: F#
Scorpio: Db
Sagittarius: Ab
Capricorn: Eb
Aquarius: Bb
Pisces: F
I also kept in mind some of the personality characteristics of each sign while I was working on the compositions.
Finally, each of the track’s artwork features the colour often associated with that sign as well as highlighting aspects of the sign’s symbol and element of fire, earth, air or water.
